Share valuable stories and identify needs.

US‑71’s construction divided neighborhoods along the US-71 corridor, including in the study areas of this project from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard on the north to 85th Street on the south, and from Paseo Boulevard on the west to Swope Parkway on the east. Today, Kansas City is working to create a safer, more connected community.

Thank you for joining us in this ongoing conversation at the March 22nd Community Summit.

Meeting with the project's Advisory Groups

The project team will meet with the Community Advisory Group and Technical Advisory Group five times during the project.

  • Community Advisory Group

The Community Advisory Group (CAG) is a diverse group of neighborhood representatives, advocates, and key East Side members who will collaborate with the project team to identify strategies, shape concepts, and refine solutions to enhance safety, equity, accessibility, and connectivity along the US-71 corridor.

The CAG will work alongside the Technical Advisory Group and Project Ambassadors to ensure community needs and aspirations are integrated into the project’s outcomes.

  • Technical Advisory Group

The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) is composed of city leaders, department representatives, and public agency members who will provide expert guidance by identifying strategies, shaping concepts, and refining solutions to enhance safety, equity, accessibility, and connectivity along the corridor.

Collaborating with the Community Advisory Group and Project Ambassadors to ensure technical expertise and community priorities are integrated into the project’s development and implementation.

What’s most important for the CAG and TAG to keep in mind about Reconnecting the East Side? Please share your suggestions with us. (max 140 characters).

Purpose and Need Statement

We need your input now to ensure the project process reflects the needs of impacted neighborhoods and corridor users.

The Purpose and Need Statement will serve as the foundation for identifying the improvements needed, defining goals and objectives of the PEL Study, and supporting the development of a framework and methodology for screening and evaluating alternatives. By incorporating stakeholder visions, transportation system deficiencies, and context-sensitive needs, the statement will ensure a comprehensive, data-driven approach that integrates land use, transportation, environmental, and infrastructure considerations for a sustainable and connected future.

Make your voice heard!

Your input will help guide planning, to reflect the needs of impacted neighborhoods and corridor users. Add your comments to our Engagement Map.
